There's still a while to go yet until The History Channel's most successful series The Vikings Season 3 premieres in 2015, but rumors are already swirling about the new season, and fans are gearing up for what looks like another exciting season of the hit show. According to new reports, a couple of new cast members will be added to the upcoming season.
Of course the spoilers for the upcoming season cannot be completely considered as 'spoilers' because the story will be based on real events after the revolutionary war. But executive producers and the director of the highly ranked series will be finding ways to give twists, and surprise fans as they tell the stories for its audience.
Show creator Michael Hirst teased fans saying that the new season will show new lands to be conquered.
"I think we have to up the game again, and Season 3 will certainly feature a very famous event which was their first Viking attack on Paris that Ragnar led. It's the most extraordinary episode. We're gonna attack Paris. Paris was the most extraordinary city. It was still a Roman city, and it was like nothing else on earth. We're just building that, at the moment, on the backlot. It will also be CGI. Ragnar attacked Paris with one hundred ships," said Hirst in his interview in collider.com.
The season promises to be packed with many interesting characters from Season 2's heart-pounding finale. Erlendur's dreadful murder of his family may be a central plot to the next season. Reports think that he might take it out on the new king.
"There is an American version of 'Vikings,' and then there is a European/world version, which is longer and has other scenes in it, anyway, Erlendur has been impressed by the idea of going to farm in England. And in his pocket he has a handful of mud, earth from England. When Ragnar sees him with this handful of dirt, he knows that he's thinking along the same lines, that they're connected in some way. So he spares him. But, of course, that turns out to be a terrible decision in the end," Hirst said in an interview with the Huffington Post.

Season 3 of "Vikings" will be bloodier than ever before. Jonathan Hession/HISTORY
The History Channel renewed “Vikings” for a 10-episode third season on March 25, and fans are sharpening their battle axes for the bloody raid that creator Michael Hirst promised after the Season 2 finale aired.
Although most of Season 3 will take place in Ireland, Hirst revealed the cast and crew will say “au revoir” to the Emerald Isle when they set sail for another beautiful location: Paris. But unfortunately the bearded and braided beauties of Kattegat will have no time to tour the City of Lights, considering they’ll be trying to destroy it from the second their ships touch the French shore.
“We’re in a new place, because Ragnar is a king now,” Hirst spoke of the coming season. “Halfway through season three, we’re going to attack Paris — there’s afamous Viking attack on the city of Paris. And they attacked with 120 ships. So this new season, we go from eight ships to 120 ships. You have to go up in scale.”
That sounds pretty serious to us. But don’t take our word for it! Just take a peek at Katheryn Winnick or Alexander Ludwig’s Instagram accounts to see just how brutal Season 3 will be. A picture does speak a thousand words after all.
Winnick, who plays Lagertha on the History Channel series, is no stranger to posting behind-the-scenes pics. But her most recent photo, which appears to be taken from the set of Season 3, showed a darker side to her usual breathtaking images. In one particular Instagram image, Winnick was spotted looking lovely as ever – well, as lovely as someone can look covered in blood.
Winnick seemed to be embracing her inner “Carrie,” with her ensemble that looked as if buckets of pig’s blood were poured on top of her.
“Don’t mess with me,” she captioned the eerie photo proving that unlike Carrie, she’s the one who caused this mess. “#Lagertha #behindthescenes #inamood #Vikings,” she finished.
And Winnick isn’t the only Viking getting down and dirty in Season 3 of the hit series. Ludwig, who plays Bjorn, took to Twitter to show just how fierce he can be on the battle field with a photo seemingly taken from the set of the third season.
“This is what I have to wear to work,” he wrote, adding a photo of himself sporting a bloody handprint smeared across his face.
Like mother, like son! We doubt Winnick and Ludwig will be the only ones drenched in blood during Season 3. If we know our Vikings like we think we do, we have a feeling Ragnar, Rollo, Floki and maybe even Athelstan (who has beenspotted working out for the third season) will find more than one way to get their hands dirty.

Just because “Vikings” will be raiding our TV sets in 2015 doesn’t mean fans have to wait until the new year to receive gripping clues regarding the History Channel’s upcoming third season. The cast of “Vikings” quenched our thirst for Nordic drama when they revealed to Yahoo TV a few of the bloody details woven into the third installment of Michael Hirst’s thrilling historical series.
"Season 3 is even more epic than Season 2. If you thought you loved Season 2, Season 3 just takes it to a whole new level," Katherine Winnick, who plays the role of Lagertha on “Vikings,” dished.
Winnick’s statement made us question how “Vikings” could ever top Jarl Borg’s gruesome Blood Eagle-death. But according to Alexander Ludwig (who portrays the role of Bjorn), Hirst managed to find a way to out-gore himself in the new season.
"It gets insane," Ludwig explained to ET Canada while at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. "I mean, the fans are going to go crazy when they see this. I'm going crazy when I read the scripts! It's incredible!"
During SDCC, “Vikings” revealed an action-packed trailer that teased some pretty gruesome Season 3 moments – one scene starring a decapitated head.

"You saw Ragnar on the prow of his ship with a severed head next to him... it's mind-blowing,” Clive Standen (who plays the character Rollo) explained toYahoo TV.
And as Ludwig so perfectly put it, things will "only get grittier” as Season 3 progresses.
What does he mean by that? Well, rumor has it the upcoming season of “Vikings” will feature a lot of unexpected deaths – one of them being the loss of a major character.
"We have lost a few characters," Winnick revealed of the rise in Season 3's death toll. "Some beloved characters and some amazing characters, so it's been a little bit in mourning on the Vikings set. But I'm telling you, it's going to be amazing this year."
